How to Use Miswak Chewing Sticks

If you want to know how to use a Miswak chewing stick, you can ask just about anyone in Africa or the Middle East to explain it for you. Unfortunately, I haven’t been Africa for more than 20 years. I don’t know anyone from the Middle East. When I heard about Miswak sticks for the first time, it was all new to me.

It seemed a little bit weird to break off a branch or root from a tree and start chewing on it. In the Middle East chewing on a stick was a natural way to fight cavities and prevent gum disease. At first I didn’t believe it. But then, I thought back to my childhood. Growing up in Africa, I had seen our maid regularly take a branch from one of our trees and chew on it. At that time, I thought she was trying to make her own tooth brush. As it turns out, Miswak is not only a toothbrush, but it is a complete dental care program.

In Africa, people do not go to the dentist, yet they have strong and white teeth. So I decided to do an online search. I wanted to see if the sticks were really healthy. After all, I remembered that my maid had really nice teeth. About two months ago, I ordered my first set of Miswak. A Miswak stick isn’t really a whole lot to look. It is basically a stick.

How to Use a Miswak Stick

The first thing you have to do is to peel off the bark. The bark doesn’t taste very good but it is fun to chew on. What you’re left with is the inner core of the stick or the twit. You want to chew on this part until it softens up. You can make Miswak sticks out of Peelu, Olive, and Walnut trees. The strong consensus among Middle Eastern communities is that Peelu trees make the best Miswak. If these aren’t available, you can use the others as substitutes.

Usually it will take about 15 to 20 minutes to completely loosen the bristles. Then you want to use these bristles to brush the sides and the top of your teeth. There is no need to use toothpaste because the Miswak will kill all of the bad bacteria in your mouth. Also, there is no need to use a toothbrush. You can brush your teeth with the Miswak once its tip starts to turn into a toothbrush. The active chewing on it helps out a ton with your teeth. It helps your teeth to become stronger. It helps your roots to be stronger also. Chewing on Miswak for 15 to 20 minutes a day can completely change your dental health.

Miswak helps your teeth to rejuvenate themselves and feel alive again. Most of the time, our teeth don’t get enough exercise. Chewing on doughnuts, or eating soft breads don’t really stimulate our gums and teeth very much. By taking time every day the chew on a Miswak stick, you will be surprised at how much stronger your teeth get. Not only that, they will get whiter too. Miswak gets rid of the bacteria that cause tooth decay and gum disease.
