Tonsillolith Stones – What Exactly Are They?

Tonsillolith – a word that sounds like a crustacean from the dinosaur days. Do you feel like you got something stuck in the back of your throat? Have you looked into a mirror and saw some weird yellow-white things sticking out from your tonsils? Have you got horrendously bad breath even if you’ve brushed your teeth a number of times and used the strongest mouthwash? Well, chances are you’ve got a few tonsillolith stones, also known as tonsil crypt stones and a few other terms. They seem to appear to grow right out of your tonsils – so what are they?

They are actually food particles that have gotten lodged into divots or pockets in the surface of your tonsils, called “crypts” (which is why this condition is also called “cryptic tonsils”). In largely the same way that oysters secrete substances around grains of sand that get into their shells and make pearls, mucus is secreted around these particles and somewhat solidifies, and that is what a tronsillolith is.

Now, to get rid of these, often a doctor might prescribe antibiotics, which usually don’t work. After all, these aren’t something viral or bacterial per se. When these fail, the doctor might even suggest a full-fledged tonsillectomy. This just seems wildly unnecessary, as many have gotten rid of their tonsillolith problems using natural cures, herbal remedies and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Performing natural home treatments, many have rid themselves of this problem permanently, with no ill side effects, without recurrences and all without surgery. Perhaps you already know of one of these remedies yourself – it could be as simple as adding something to your daily menu of things to eat.
